Although blood is primarily a fluid (called plasma), it also contains small solid components (red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets). Platelets are best known for their importance in blood clotting. However, platelets also contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors that are very important in healing injuries.
PRP is plasma with many more platelets than is typically found in the blood. Platelet concentration (and therefore concentration of growth factors) can be 5 to 10 times higher (or richer) than normal.
To develop PRP preparation, a patient’s blood must first be drawn. Platelets are separated from other blood cells and their concentration increases during a process called centrifugation. The increased platelet concentration is then combined with the remaining blood.
How does PRP work?
While it is not exactly clear how PRP works, laboratory studies have shown that increasing the concentration of growth factors in PRP can potentially accelerate the healing process.
To speed healing, the site of the injury is treated with the preparation of PRP. This can be done in one of two ways:
• PRP can be carefully injected into the injured area. For example, in Achilles tendinitis, a condition commonly seen in runners and tennis players, the heel cord can become inflamed, inflamed and hurt. A mixture of PRP and local anesthesia can be injected directly into this inflamed tissue. Afterwards, pain in the injection area can actually increase during the first week or two, and it may take several weeks before the patient feels a beneficial effect.
• PRP can also be used to improve healing after surgery for some injuries. For example, an athlete with a completely torn heel cord may require surgery to repair the tendon. Healing the torn tendon can possibly be improved by treating the injured area with PRP during surgery. This is done by preparing the PRP in a special way that allows it to be sewn into torn tissues.
Benefits of Platelet Rich Plasma Treatment (PRP)
We know from experience that this treatment is widely used in aesthetic medicine and that it aims to rejuvenate your entire face or other areas of the skin. It’s a painless treatment, injecting a series of plasma proteins into your skin to boost cell regeneration and rejuvenation. You should know that plasma contains numerous compounds that help keep cells integrated, such as platelets themselves (also responsible for repairing damage to the body).
It is clear that this same injected substance comes from your own body, so there is no risk of rejection. And, of course, it is an outpatient treatment that is easy to apply and that will barely last the session more than 30 minutes. After its application, you can make your daily life normal, since it does not need hospitalization.
In itself, we recommend not to be afraid of this treatment. In addition, it does not require a large number of sessions. Approximately, you’re going to need between 4 and 5 a year. Although we do have to tell you that it will depend on your skin type and the alterations to be treated.
